Are We at War With Russia?

Because last time I looked I thought we weren't.

Ukraine is definitely at war with Russia and we are "helping" by sending tanks, and equipment to help them fight teh war.

But I thought we weren't involved directly.

Until yesterday that is, when we seized a Russian tanker. Okay, it's on of Russia's "dark" fleet, but still, it's ultimately owned by Russia.

In what some would call an act of war, if not piracy.

What gives the UK the power to seize a tanker owned by another country? I seem to remember Somali pirates getting the tail end of some hot lead for doing exactly the same.

Please can someone explain the difference to me?
