Cressida Dick has been responsible for a number of professional errors in leadership. From the DeMenezes shooting through the Extinction Rebellion fiasco, to BLM, the lockdown rallies and protests outside of Parliament.
This latest fiasco really seals the deal on the need for her "retirement" from the Police Force.
In my opinion, she cannot lead, she is incompetent, she has made too many wrong decisions; decisions that are now adversely affecting the relationship between the Police and the public.
The variation between Policing of different protests shows bias. Whether political or otherwise, there should be no bias in the Police Force.
If baton charges are good enough for peaceful lockdown protesters, why did Police stand back when Extinction Rebellion were actually creating criminal damage?
The woman needs to go. She needs to allow someone more competent and even-handed to take over and start to lead the Police, not keep reacting to events. That's not leadership.
The utter contempt she has for the mood of public and politicians alike in refusing to resign shows her attitude. I'm not sure how many times she can refuse. For each of the above instances there have been calls for her to go and each time she has refused.
I'm not sure what protects her from Criticism, but she seems to be able to be steadfast against opinion. Form outside and inside her own Force.
Can someone not sack her?
